Training around the UK - skilled workers
If you want to come into the sector at 'craft' level (which generally means working on the tools), you will need to work towards an minimum of NVQ or SVQ, depending upon the specific occupation (see our careers information section for full details). Make sure you check with your training provider that you will obtain an NVQ or SVQ at the end of your training.
To gain an NVQ or SVQ you must be in employment or have the ability to be assessed on site, carrying out work on real installations. Similar to an apprenticeship scheme, you should be prepared to gain your qualification over a number of years, not weeks or months. There is no quick fix to gaining the right qualifications.
Around the UK, apprenticeship schemes are different. There are also different qualifications and different people to contact depending on whereabouts in the country you are.
