Apprenticeships and SVQs - Scotland

Modern Apprenticeships

The Modern Apprenticeship scheme on offer is respected by employers and leads to an SVQ Level 3, designed to ensure that, when you qualify you will have the skills needed to do professional and highly skilled work that will be expected of you on site. The Modern Apprenticeship also includes core skills.

You must be employed to enter into the industry on a Modern Apprenticeship scheme.

It is important that you are prepared for your career in building services engineering and the training you will receive. You will be expected to have a good level of education, with at least three Standard Grades in Maths, English and a science or technology subject. Also, all potential apprentices must pass an industry approved aptitude assessment before they are eligible to become an apprentice.

Scottish Vocational Qualifications

If you are unable to do an apprenticeship, you should still be looking to gain a Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ).

In the careers information section you can download Scotland fact sheets for each the various industries.
