Apprenticeships and NVQs - Wales
Apprenticeships
The apprenticeship schemes on offer in Wales are respected by employers and include the Foundation Modern Apprenticeship leading to an NVQ Level 2 or a Modern Apprenticeship leading to an NVQ Level 3, both designed to ensure that when qualified you will have all the skills necessary to do professional and highly skilled work expected of you on site.
Both apprenticeship programmes also include key skills and a technical certificate, which are designed to ensure that you receive all the underpinning knowledge you will require in the workplace. You must be employed to enter into the industry on any of the apprenticeship schemes.
It is important that you are prepared for your career in building services engineering and the training you will receive. You will be expected to have a good level of education, at least three GCSEs grade C or above maths, English and a science or technology subject. You may also be required to sit an aptitude test.
National Vocational Qualifications
If you are unable to do an apprenticeship, you should still be looking to gain a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ).
