Trade up to teaching and share your skills

There is a growing demand for well qualified and experienced building services engineering professionals to become teachers, lecturers, tutors and assessors.  If you would like to consider a career in teaching and passing your skills on to others, you will need two qualifications.  One is a recognised qualification in the subject you wish to teach and the second is a teaching qualification (although you may be able to work towards completing this after you have started a teaching role).  For details of funding initial teacher training download the Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK) information sheet.

Jobs in the further education sector (post-16 learning) are advertised in a number of places.  Most colleges, universities and private training providers will have their own websites where they will advertise any available posts, and they will also advertise in the local press.

All colleges advertise full-time vacancies in the 'FE Focus' section of 'The Times Educational Supplement'.  This is published on Fridays and is available through most newsagents and in public libraries.  These job advertisements are also available on the associated website for three weeks after their first appearance.

Many posts are also advertised on the FEjobsFEcareers and teachFE websites.  They include Scottish/National Vocational qualifications (S/NVQs) roles and positions with work based learning training providers.

Some teaching posts offer financial incentives for subjects with a shortage of teachers. Find out more.
