Training your existing staff

Developing the skills of your existing workforce is just as important as training new employees. From NVQ/SVQ right up to degree level and beyond, there is a qualification level to suit every member of your business. By helping them to gain qualifications you can improve both their performance and your business.

It’s important to have confidence in the people who are going out and doing the job – and qualifications provide just that.  Competent employees also work together better as a team, which in turn helps to enhance productivity and boosts the bottom line. Richard Owens

The main types of training you can undertake are:

  • Short Upskilling Courses

Generally, this could be a 1 to 5 day course to meet legislation requirements such as Health and Safety, Building Regulations, Gas Regulations or to understand new technology such as ground source heat pumps or photovoltaic cells

  • National Vocational Qualifications / Scottish Vocational Qualifications

An existing employee can do a NVQ or SVQ generally quicker than a new employee; many industries have ways of assessing an individual’s ability to assess them without doing unnecessary training, reducing time and focusing on the assessment and training required

  • Higher National Certificate / Higher National Diploma

If you have a craft level employee and train them in a more technical area, it creates a more rounded employee with both practical and technical skills needed to help your business develop.

  • Foundation Degree and Degree level

Taking your staff to degree level means they have the underpinning knowledge to move into more senior technical responsibility/management for large jobs, designing new solutions and concepts. Don't rely on them being able to progress to their full potential without this type of continual training support.
